ABOUT ME

I was born in Shenyang, China. Before China's political and economic reform opened up, Chinese films were more of a propaganda tool. Before I entered primary school at the age of 3, most of the films I watched came from socialist countries, such as Albania, the Soviet Union, North Korea and China. Propaganda aside, most of these films are about wars and the struggles of people who live under them. In 1995, the Chinese government officially introduced the first Hollywood films, they were "True Lies", "Forrest Gump" and "The Lion King”. The entertainment of these films overturned my perception that movies were only for self-defense teaching films about war. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Hanks became my childhood heroes. I started to care about movies from then on. But I was just interested and never thought about making a movie.

I met a friend at the university who spent his days watching movies downloaded from the pirate bay on his computer, but he only watched art-house movies. That’s when I got to know Ingmar Bergman, Jean-marc Godard, Fellini and other directors and their films. Since then, I have loved movies and wanted to be involved with these filmmakers. I bought a camera on my first month's salary and started learning how to use it. I started shooting stories with my friends. I kept watching and learning from other filmmakers. I learned how to tell stories through editing. I think I may not have the chance to become a film master, but I keep  thinking about new ideas for the editing and shooting of the film industry.
